A Cause So Great

Why I launched the ”I am” collection.

I am…

damaged
ugly
selfish
fat
crazy

I am. These two words frame the basis of our identity and who we believe we are. If you are anything like me, you have struggled with these negative statements in your head, at the very least. You may have even heard these statements from the outside world: peers. associates, loved ones. Simple words that cause so much damage and takes years to repair.

It seems to me that the most influential and impactful delivery of these words are in our intimate relationships. More specifically, a trusted loved one, the very one who is said to protect your heart and honor your soul. This is a trauma and tragedy like none other. Pain within ourself that runs deeper than any wound; feelings of shame and worthlessness. Simple words that lead to core beliefs and lost beings. I was that girl.

Domestic Violence is so much more than a threat, a bruise, the cops, etc. Domestic violence includes everything from physical and sexual assault to mental, emotional and verbal abuse. It is the depreciation and violence against a persons being and body. It is serious, it is life threatening and it is way too common. Unfortunately, the victims are mostly silent and go unnoticed and unheard for fear of repercussions. Alone and scared; silent.

I chose to be heard.

I have a voice. I have a story. I have a cause.

I will make a difference.

I have and continue to work on my healing and growth since my experience with domestic violence. It’s a daily process which I am blessed and honored to share with others through my personal development organization. This is why I have decided to partner with the Delaware Coalition Against Domestic Violence. Through the creation of the “I am” bracelets, we are able to give women everywhere the reminder of positive and truthful “I am” statements while making a difference on the larger cause. A portion of proceeds from the sale of each bracelet goes back to the coalition to support the awareness and the prevention of Domestic Violence.

While I know that this effort is just a minute fraction of what needs to be done, I am devoted to using my voice and contributing. I am not alone. We are not alone. We wear our bracelets to remind us that we are not alone, ever. My passion lies in sharing my story, in full honesty, and inspiring others to do the same. Yes, it is difficult at times; however, I am committed to make a difference and support others to do the same. One woman at a time, one bracelet at a time.

I am…

safe
love
beautiful
fearless
enough

I am…ME.
